    League Game Rules

    Playoffs

This year we are jumping right into action the first Saturday of play will count toward your first half regualr season standings. The season will consist of 2 mini-seasons each with approximately 12 games and two sets of playoffs. All teams make the playoffs (at least a wild card game). Each set of playoffs will be completed in 2 weekend days. The final game of the season will be the winner of the first half playoffs against the winner of the second half playoffs. The overall winner will be eligible for a team dinner if they so desire.

    Team Construction

    • We have made teams that put people with their friends, places roughly 10-11 players on a team, and balances out talent.
    • If I have made an error and placed you with your enemies or you would rather abandon your friends to play on a team with less talent, headcount, etc. please let me know, but only approach me if your switching teams won't tip the scales above 11 or below 9.
    • I have appointed a captain for each team.

Avoid the Forfeit and undesirable game times by indicating if You are playing

    • Each player is responsible for responding by Wednesday at 4pm on the Message Board to confirm whether they will be playing in their game that coming weekend.
    • To avoid a forfeit, your captain or other team member is responsible for notifying the commissioner and opposing team's captain by Thursday at 12pm only if they will not have 5 paid players the upcoming weekend.
    • All players should check the site on Friday after 1pm for last minute schedule changes.
    • A forfeit is defined as a team that due to lack of players can not provide the other team with a full court run. The penalty is a loss for that week and a loss of one future game. A team that borrows players from other teams to enable a full court run is only given one loss regardless of the game's outcome. You should not be inviting non-paid league members to play in league games.
    • Teams not regularly using the message board or email to indicate expected attendance will be the first teams slotted for less desirable game times.

    Starting and Ending the Game

    • For every 2 minutes the game starts late, the score to which you play is reduced by 1 point. (i.e. A game that starts 10 minutes late is played to 27 instead of 32).
    • Game ends regardless of score at end of time allocation. If based on the score the game before your seems like it will run late politely notify the players of the time and agree on a new lower score at which to end the game.

    The Game Itself

    • Bring a ball. Bring a ball. Bring a ball.
    • Games are to 32 by 1's. Win by 2 capped at 35.
    • Call your own fouls.
    • A shot is good if it goes in when a foul is called in the act of shooting.
    • 3 point baskets count for 1 point.
    • The ceiling is out of bounds.
    • Switch sides at 16 points (if either team desires).
    • The team who was scored on to end the 1st half gets the ball to start the 2nd half.
    • 1 2-minute timeout per team (only if necessary).

    Let Them Play

    • Everyone gets equal playing time. It's asked that each week a subbing order is made by the captain and each player rotates in and out after a set number of baskets.
    • Only paid team members are eligible for league play. Please contact the commissioner if a teammate is bringing random friends. No guests.

    Respect Those around You

    • Do not yell at your teammates or your opponents.
    • Players waiting for the next game or pick-up run while a game is going on are asked to shoot on the side baskets only.

    Sharing the Results

    • Winning team captain or other teammate must post results (score, who won, and any highlights) on the league's web site Message Board by the following Tuesday morning to receive a win.

    PICK-UP RULES

  • If a league game ends early. You may play short pickup games to 8 straight.
  • Immediately following a league game the first 10 on the sideline play.
  • If 10 are not waiting, winning league team shoots foul shouts for extra spots.
  • Persons waiting the most games get next game.
  • If players have been waiting the same # of games foul shots will determine who plays. Losers play in next game.
  • If 10 or more are waiting, winners come off after their second pick-up win.
  • If someone gets hurt and a player takes his spot and the injured player does not return the sub has given up his spot only if the leading team has less than 3 baskets scored.
  • If the gym is crowded, players should try to play no more than 2 straight hours on a given day. Crowded is more than a 2 game wait. Either one hour of league play and 1 hour of pick-up or 2 hours of pick-up.
  • The policy is no guests for pick-up. If the commissioner thinks we are having a problem with attendance then and only then will we change this policy.
